Learn the rules. If you will be traveling by plane, all United States airlines limit the amount of liquid you can carry on the plane with you. You are required to carry all of your liquid toiletries in containers smaller than 3 oz. and all of them combines must fit in a one quart-sized plastic bag.
Choose a bag that will best suite your needs. There are many types of toiletry bags for traveling. There are classic one compartment bags, those with multiple compartments, and bags that can be hung from a doorknob or towel rack. If you will be traveling by plane, a smaller bag for your non-liquid toiletries and prescriptions is fitting.
Decide what you need to bring with you. If you are traveling to a cold climate, you may want to bring extra hand lotion. Most hotels provide customers with travel size shampoos and conditioners. If you will be staying in a hotel, you will not need to pack a large number of these items.
Purchase travel sized versions of the toiletries you will need. Most drugstores will have a wide selection of sample sized products.
Invest in travel size, leak-free bottles. These can be found at any drugstore. Use these to store your more expensive toiletries, that don't come in small bottles.
Pack your toiletries into your toiletry bag. Possible items to pack include: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, comb or brush, floss, sunscreen, vitamins, and a first aid kit.
Pack prescription medications in their original bottles, along with the prescription information. It is a wise idea to carry an additional copy of your prescriptions in a different bag, in case they go missing.
