How to Travel With a Blow Dryer & Diffuser

Many hotels now offer in-room hair dryers, but some still do not. Most don't include diffusers because they're detachable and can be easily stolen. If you're partial to a particular dryer and how it works, pack it carefully or find a smaller version of the same blow dryer and diffuser. There are many types of dryers on the market that fold into a compact shape that takes less room in your suitcase. Take along an appropriate current converter and plug adapter if you're traveling overseas or you won't be able to use it.

Detach the diffuser and wrap it in an article of clothing. A t-shirt or camisole is about the right size. Diffusers have small plastic parts that can be broken if mashed into a suitcase, so find a well-padded corner for it if your travel dryer doesn't have a case.

Fold up your travel dryer. Wrap the cord around three of your fingers in loops until it is tightly coiled. Secure it with a twist tie so that it will take less room in your suitcase. Zip it into its case if it has one, or place it in the middle of several layers of clothing so it won't be crushed.

Remember to take the right current converter for the country you're visiting. Most of Europe functions on 220 to 240 volts, while American appliances work at 110 volts. You will need a 1600-watt converter for heating appliances like dryers and irons.

Take the right adapter for the outlet as well. Your dryer's plug may not fit into every outlet where you stay because some of them are different shapes and have different numbers of prongs. Your dryer likely has three, and the outlet may only have two. It's worth the phone call to find out which type of adapter you'll need.
