Money -- cash, credit cards and traveler checks along with numbers of the financial institutions for credit cards and traveler checks in case they get lost or stolen. It is also a good idea to have two sets of car and house keys for the same reason. Other necessary items include medical insurance cards, prescriptions and medicines, maps, tickets, reservations and first aid kit. A beach bag can be used to store all the items brought to the beach. Zip lock bags are good for storing items you don't want to get wet when swimming but are afraid might get stolen if left out. They are also good for collecting seashells and keeping snacks in.
Beach clothing should consist of sandals or water shoes, sun hats and/or baseball caps, swimsuits or swim trunks (at least 2 for each person) and beach cover-ups. Swimwear with UV protection is recommended for infants and toddlers. In addition to beach wear, a complete change of clothes for each person for every vacation day should be packed, unless there is a laundry facility in the resort, in this case, less clothing may be needed. For cooler climates, a light weight jacket and long pants should also be included in the items packed.
Sunglasses, waterproof sunscreen (SPF of 30+) for kids and adults, lip balm, insect repellent, goggles, waterproof camera, after-sun lotion, aloe, beach towels (at least two per person) and a large blanket to spread out on the beach. An umbrella or beach tent is recommended to shade small children. Most resorts provide rentals for chairs and umbrellas. Also another important item to pack is flotation devices for young children. In addition, swim diapers are needed for infants and toddlers.
Buckets and shovels, sand molds, Frisbees, beach balls, books, kites and boogie boards are some items that can create hours of fun on the beach.
When it comes to toiletries, they are pretty much the same with any vacation. They include toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, deodorant, combs, brushes, shampoo and conditioner, cosmetics, shaving supplies, nail clippers, tweezers and cotton balls. If traveling with a baby, burp cloths, bibs, disposable diapers, wipes, diaper rash ointment, bathing supplies, lotion, pacifiers, blankets, baby food, formula, utensils and a collapsible stroller may also need to be added to the list.
