Arrange the bike rack right-side up behind your vehicle on a safe driveway with the padded feet pointing toward the rear bumper and the arms pointing away.
Adjust the the straps attached to the upper side of the rack to approximately the height of your rear window plus one foot for motor vehicles with a hatch back. Adjust the the upper straps to approximately the length of the top of your trunk plus six inches for motor vehicles with a trunk.
Open the rear hatch or trunk of your vehicle approximately one foot.
Lift the rack, holding the padded feet against the partially opened rear hatch or trunk.
Fit the hooks of both upper straps into the now open crack between the roof of the car and the rear hatch or trunk.
Lower the rack slowly until the feet fit snugly against the rear and the hooks support the weight of the rack.
Fine-tune the upper strap adjustment so that the upper feet rest directly beneath the rear window.
Adjust the straps attached to the bottom of the rack so that they hang just over the bottom of the rear door.
Close the door, leaving a crack in which to fit the hooks on the two bottom straps.
Tighten the bottom straps, keeping the hooks in place, enough to pull the bottom feet even and snug against the rear. Continue tightening until the rack cannot shift side-to-side or up-and-down.
