How to Pack a Sport Coat

One key to comfortable travel is packing well. An effective packer aims to prevent rumpling, creases, odors, soiling and excess wrinkles. A sport coat presents a challenge because of its bulk, and as an outer garment, any creases will end up in plain sight. Hang a sport coat with jackets and dress shirts in a garment bag, when possible. When it is necessary to fold a sport coat for a suitcase, use effective techniques to reduce wrinkling. You'll be able to dress well at your destination without looking as though you're living out of a suitcase.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the sport coat inside out.

    • 2

Spread the sport coat flat on a table or bed with the lining side down. In this position, the outside of the sport coat's back should face you.

    • 3

Fold one front half of the sport coat back against the coat's back.

    • 4

Fold the other front half of the sport coat back against the coat's back. In this position, the inside front of the jacket faces up.

    • 5

Fold the end of each sleeve up to the shoulder of the same sleeve and smooth it out flat to prevent creases.

    • 6

Fold the jacket in half lengthwise. If the suitcase or bag is large enough, leave the jacket in this position. If you need to fold the sport coat further to fit the luggage, fold the bottom of the sport coat up to the collar.

    • 7

Place a sheet of tissue paper or plastic in the suitcase.

    • 8

Set the folded sport coat on the tissue paper or plastic.

    • 9

Place another sheet of tissue paper or plastic over the sport coat. This reduces friction and wrinkling.
