How to Pack a Dish Pack

Packing fragile dishes properly will help to prevent damage during a move. Dish pack cartons are designed specifically to hold daily dishes, china, glassware and other breakables while in transit. Figurines and mirrors are also important candidates for packing into a dish pack. Dish packs are constructed of heavy, thick cardboard to protect the contents from bumps and jostles. For best dish pack packing results, gather your kitchen and dining room valuables and set aside time to pack without rushing.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather the dish pack containers and place them in a central location, such as the dining room floor. Gather the other necessary items, such as tissue or packing paper and stack it beside the container. Stack towels, bubble wrap, packing tape and a large permanent marker nearby.

    • 2

Organize the items to be packed. Place the china cups together and the china plates together, for example. Set all of the wine glasses, the bowls, the large serving dishes and figurines together into groups.

    • 3

Insert cushioning material, such as Styrofoam peanuts or a folded towel, in the bottom of the dish pack.

    • 4

Begin with the large flat items, such as serving platters. Lay the platter on the stack of tissue paper and wrap it and then lay it on the bubble wrap and wrap it. Tape it closed. Using this method of moving one item from one stack to the other will save you time in packing. Lay the platter on its edge, on the side of the first dish pack box. You can stack up to three flat items on the side of a dish pack box when they are wrapped in bubble wrap. Place peanuts or a towel between each one and to fill the box around them.

    • 5

Wrap mirrors and figurines with tissue paper before wrapping them in bubble wrap and placing them in another dish pack container. Bowls can be individually tissue wrapped and then bubble wrapped in sets of three and placed in a dish pack face down. All plates should be individually wrapped with tissue paper and then wrapped with bubble wrap before packing in the dish pack individually. Do not pack items on top of plates.

    • 6

Pack cups and glassware with long stems, such as wine and champagne glasses, by wrapping them individually in a double layer of tissue paper and then wrapping them in bubble wrap. Place them into cellular divided pads that are provided by moving companies where you purchased the dish pack containers, upside down. When packing cups, arrange them with the handles facing identical directions. Stuff tissue paper around the contents into the divided sections for extra padding.

Top the boxes off by stuffing the empty areas with towels, old sheets or Styrofoam peanuts. Tape the boxes closed with packing tape. Write the contents of the boxes with permanent marker in large letters and add, "FRAGILE - THIS SIDE UP!" on all boxes.
