How to Pack for a Tropical Honeymoon

Packing for a tropical honeymoon can be a fun but stressful endeavor. Most brides-to-be are already stressed out about the wedding and don't want to worry about packing for the honeymoon. However, packing light can take some of the stress out of planning ahead for the honeymoon. Depending on the length of your stay, it may be possible to share one large suitcase between you, and then you may each take a carry-on bag with a change of clothes, a camera and other items that wouldn't fit in the suitcase. Be sure to be aware of all airline regulations regarding liquids and luggage sizes.

Instructions

  1. How to Pack for a Tropical Honeymoon

    • 1

Bring as little as possible. Don't bring many "just in case" items. Check the weather ahead of time to make sure you are both bringing only the essentials. Additionally, even though you may each have five swimming suits, it's only necessary to bring one or two of them. Don't forget to pack a pair of pajamas and few pieces of lingerie (for women) for those romantic nights together.

    • 2

Mix and match. Bring light pants, skirts (women) or shorts that can be worn for more than one day, and bring tops to mix and match with them. This will not only save you from doing more laundry, but cutting down on what isn't essential will help create more space in the suitcase. For men, T-shirts and short-sleeved button-down shirts are easy and simple essentials that don't take up much room.

    • 3

Don't bring toiletries or blow dryers. Check with the hotel to see if it provides trial-size bottles of shampoo, body wash and conditioner. Additionally, hair dryers may already be provided in the hotel room and will free you from bringing your own. Also, if you are going to a tropical location, bringing a straightening iron may be useless because of the humidity. Save time and effort by using curling or frizz balm and letting hair air-dry. Women can keep their hair styled but in more casual styles, such as braids, a sideways bun or a loose ponytail. For men, most hotels don't provide hair gel or combs, so be sure to pack those.

For women, another alternative is to bring sundresses instead of pants, skirts and tops. These usually take up less space in the suitcase and will keep you cool when the weather is hot or humid. Sundresses can also be dressed up for a romantic night out to dinner when paired with a camisole or light cardigan.
For men, pack jeans, carpenter shorts, khakis or cotton/linen pants that do not wrinkle easily. Shorts take up less space in the suitcase, but be sure to bring one or two pairs of pants for nice dinners or evenings out.
For men and women, be sure to bring a nice pair of shoes, along with flip-flops/sandals and tennis shoes (as mentioned above).

Pack a few "just in case" items. Depending on what your daily activities are, it may be pertinent to bring a sweatshirt for colder days or nights and tennis shoes and socks for more physical activities like hiking or sightseeing. Make a list of everything that will be happening during your honeymoon trip and try to pack what you'll need.
