Information for a United Kingdom Passport Application

The Identity and Passport Service in the United Kingdom processes applications for passports from British citizens through Direct Gov. There are seven regional Direct Gov offices in the United Kingdom and they will only process your passport application if you make an appointment. You must have originals of all of your documents because the Identity and Passport Service does not accept photocopies. You also need someone to sign your passport application to confirm your identity and confirm that he or she has known you for two years or more. This person is known as a countersignatory. The 2010 fee for a United Kingdom passport is £77.50
