You can renew your passport if your existing passport is a standard U.K. adult 10-year passport or a U.K. five-year child's passport that was issued to you before you were 16 years old. The passport must be undamaged and the information must all still be correct.
You can renew your passport before your existing passport expires. IPS can carry over up to nine months from your old passport to your renewed passport if you decide to renew your passport before it expires, but you will not be reimbursed for any other remaining time on your old passport.
If you want to renew your passport before a trip, remember to do it at least a month in advance because it will take at least three weeks to process your application, sometimes even longer, and booking travel is not advised before you get your renewed passport. If you urgently need to renew your passport, use the one-week fast track service or the one-day premium service.
You can pick up the renewal application from a post office with check and send service, request it from the IPS website, call the Passport Advice line or complete the application online and wait for the IPS to send it to you to be signed.
There is only one application form for all passport types. After you have signed your application, attached the necessary supporting documents and the passport fee to your application and mail it to the IPS office. After your application is processed, your new passport will be mailed to you.
Attach two recent and identical passport photographs and your old passport to your completed application. No other documents are needed.
The 10-year, 32-page adult passport costs £77.50 for standard service, £112.50 for the one-week fast track service and £129.50 for the one-day premium service. Anyone born on or before Sept. 2, 1929, is eligible for a free standard service passport, but extra fees are charged for fast track and premium services.
