Information forThailand Passports

A Thailand passport proves the holder's Thai nationality and his identification. It is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thailand nationals living abroad also can be issued a Thailand passport through the local Thailand Consulate or diplomatic agency in the country in which they reside. All Thailand nationals, including children, must have a passport for international travel, and passports must be valid for six months before traveling abroad.
  1. Applying

    • You will need to apply in person, and it is recommended that you make an appointment prior to applying. The Thailand government uses biometric information on its passports. This means your height will be measured by a government official, and your fingerprints will be taken. This information is stored on a chip inside the passport. These are commonly known as e-passports.

    Documents

    • When applying for a Thailand passport, you will need a complete and notarized application form and an original, valid Thailand citizenship identification card, which contains a 13-digit personal ID number, or a government official ID card. If the ID card does not have a personal ID number, applicants must bring a House Registration, which is a document that proves occupancy of a property. A House Registration must be applied for prior to getting a passport. It is issued by the local municipality.

    Minors Under 15

    • A child's parent or guardian must accompany the child when applying for a Thailand passport. The other parent must sign consent when picking up the passport, or a parent may sign a notarized consent form to be present at the time of application. A certified birth certificate also is required.

    Ages 15 to 20

    • Parents or guardians do not have to be present at the time of application. However, both parents are required to sign the parental consent form in front of a passport official or have the minor present a notarized consent form signed by both parents. Minors ages 15 to 20 also must present a citizenship identification card that has the 13-digit personal ID number.

    Cost And Processing

    • As of September 2009, the cost of a Thailand passport is 1,000 Baht, plus an additional postage fee of 35 Baht if you will be receiving your passport by mail. Thailand passports for minors cost the same as an adult's passport. The processing time is, on average, about three to four days.
