How to Get a New UK Passport

There are many procedures a traveler must go through before departing, mostly involving packing and what exactly to bring. When traveling internationally, a passport is almost always required, and this holds true to citizens of the United Kingdom. However, passports are not just handed out and there are many regulations involved with receiving a new one. These are the procedures for getting a UK passport.

      Pick up a passport application form from a post-office branch which offers "Passport Check & Send" services. Fill it out. The form can also be completed online.

      Find someone to cosign the form. The cosigner must be someone who is in good standing with the community; who has known you for at least two years; and who is willing to write his own passport number on the form.

      Get two copies of your passport photo.

      Have your cosigner sign, date and write "I certify the likeness of this is true of [Miss/Mr./Mrs./Ms. followed by your full name]" on the back of one of the photographs.

      Return to the post office with the completed form, the two passport photos, your birth certificate, valid government ID and application fee.

      Wait for a letter from the IPS Regional Passport Office, which will instruct you to call in and schedule a passport Interview.

      Attend your passport interview, which will take about 30 minutes.

      Receive your passport around six weeks after you submitted your application.
