U.S. Passport Photo Requirements for Children

Because children grow so quickly, some people have concerns about the kinds of photos that are needed for children to apply for passports. Generally speaking, the photos required for children and adults are similar.
  1. Recent

    • The photos of all passport applicants must be taken within six months of the application being filed. This is especially important for children.

    View

    • The photo should be of the child's full face in front of a plain white or an off-white background.

    Dimensions

    • The distance between the child's chin and top of her head should be between 1 and 1 3/8 inches.

    Attire

    • Children should wear normal street attire. Uniforms may be worn if religious beliefs require it.

    Glasses

    • Children may wear prescription eyeglasses, but should not wear sunglasses. The eyeglasses must not create a glare in the photo.
