Submit two identical photos taken within the past month with your British passport application. Photos must be professionally produced on low-gloss, high-quality paper. Only off-white, cream and light grey backgrounds are allowed. No shadows, red-eye or flashes are allowed in the photo. Photos produced at home lack the sharp detail required for biometric passports.
Your passport photos must measure 45mm by 35mm. Writing is not allowed on the front or back of your passport photo. No creases, including those made by paperclips, can be present on the photo.
Look directly into the camera when you take your passport photo. The photo must feature a close up of your head and shoulders that takes up 65 percent to 75 percent of the photo space. No head coverings are allowed unless religiously or medically required. Prescription glasses without tinted lenses are allowed. It is suggested you remove your glasses when you take your passport photo. Keep a neutral expression on your face and do not show teeth. Other people or objects cannot be in your passport photo.
