The Republic of Ireland issues Irish passports to its citizens. These passports are burgundy in colour and have the harp emblem of Ireland displayed on the cover.
The United Kingdom issues three different types of passports: British passports, Northern Irish passports, and British Overseas Territories Citizen (BOTC) passports. The majority of UK citizens hold British passports which are dark blue in colour. Northern Irish citizens can choose to hold either a British passport or a Northern Irish passport, which features a clover emblem on the cover along with other distinct design elements. BOTC passports are not as frequently used and are issued to citizens of British Overseas Territories.
