Most countries guidelines stipulate the photo be a full face photo, taken within the last six months, 2-inches by 2-inches, with the head in the center of the picture, in color against a white background, and no hat or sunglasses should be worn. Check with the consulate for your country of destination for any additional requirements such as black and white photos or whether ears must be visible.
You can go just about anywhere that takes passport photos since passport photos are similar to visa pictures. The national pharmacy chains, discount warehouse clubs, and one-hour or 24-hour picture-developing locations are some of the establishments providing this service.
You can also take your own visa picture. Stand in front of a white background and look at the camera directly for a head shot. Digital pictures must be reproduced without visible pixels.
