The Embassy of France is the seat of the French ambassador to the United States. It is located directly north of Georgetown University, which is directly across Reservoir Road from the embassy. The embassy abuts Foundry Branch Valley Park and is near the Potomac river and the D.C.-Virgina border.
Visas can be issued on the same day as the visa application is submitted, but the consulate advises visitors to apply for their visa no less than three weeks before departure, in case additional support materials are required. Visa applications from certain countries require 15 to 20 business days for full processing.
The visa office is one of the publicly accessible offices in the embassy building, though they welcome visa applicants by appointment only. Appointments can be made through the online reservation system on the consular website.
