Make an appointment for an interview at the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence.
Complete and sign Form DS-156, the non-immigrant visa application form (see link in Resources). Obtain a recent 2-by-2 inch photo--taken within the last six months--displaying a centered shot of your full face and staple it to your DS-156.
Complete the Supplemental Non-Immigrant Visa Application--Form DS-157--if you are a male, ages 16 to 45, or your country is considered a "state sponsor of terrorism" (Cuba, Syria, Sudan and Iran).
Obtain a passport for travel to the United States, validated six months ahead of your trip.
Submit your visa application fee and any applicable issuance fees, to your U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Not all visa applications will require an issuance fee, as the U.S. State Department only reciprocates issuance fees to countries imposing similar fees to U.S. citizens.
