Check whether you need a tourist visa. As of 2011, if you are a citizen of Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand or Singapore you do not need a visa to travel to India for tourism. However, you are permitted to enter the country only once, and it must be strictly for the purpose of tourism. Your stay must also not exceed 30 days. If you are a citizen of any other country, you must apply for a visa.
Locate the nearest Indian embassy or visa outsourcing service. Contact the embassy or service to find out specifically what is required for your country of origin and obtain the application form. Make a checklist of the documents you that must be submitted with the application.
Gather the necessary documents and money for the visa fee. Make certain your passport is up to date and valid for at least six months after your trip will end. Fill out the application form, and turn it in with the supporting documents and visa fee, either in person or through the mail.
