How to Get a Japanese Tourist Visa
Japan is a close ally of the United States, and tourists describe a travel experience to Japan as being similar to one to the US. This includes heightened security screenings at the airports of high profile destinations. As is the case with many countries having a close relationship with the U.S., tourists staying for less than 90 days do not need a visa, but if you intend to stay longer or do any work in Japan, you will need a visa.

Determine the type of visa you will need by answering a few questions at the Embassy of Japan in the United State's website at www.us.emb-japan.go.jp.

Assemble the necessary documents to apply for a visa. Everyone will at least need a valid passport, a passport size photograph, and a visa application. The Japan Embassy's website lists any additional information you'll need.
