Visit the Peruvian Embassy website to determine whether individuals from your country of citizenship are required to present a visa for travel. Those who do not require a visa for a period of less than 90 days, but intend to visit Peru for longer than this have the option of applying for an extension to this rule once there.
Print out the visa form from the Peruvian Embassy website. Once filled out, gather it along with your valid, unexpired passport (meaning one that will not expire 90 days from the day of your departure and with blank visa pages), the appropriate fees, $30 U.S. as of February 2010, onward/return ticket, one passport size photo and the letter from your employer or school. Depending upon the country of citizenship, additional documents might be required. They can include a green card or other proof of legal status, and a bank statement showing proof of sufficient funds to support the duration of your visit.
Decide whether to mail your application or submit it in person. Applications can be sent in person at the Peruvian consulate or embassy located nearest you. Fees for applications made in person can be paid in cash. For those deciding to mail, fees must be paid by way of a money order made out to Consulado General del Peru. Include the prepaid self-addressed Fed Ex envelope in the packet if mailing.
Mail your application packet to the nearest Peruvian consulate. Applications must be made at the Peruvian consulate or embassy with jurisdiction over your place of residence. The Peruvian Embassy website can be consulted for determining just which location has jurisdiction near your residence.
Allow ample time for processing. Once a decision has been made, your passport will be returned with the visa affixed to it, providing you have been approved.
