How to Get a Tourist Visa From India to Malaysia

Most nationalities don't need visas to enter Malaysia, but Indian citizens do. Fortunately, tourist visas are easy to obtain, as they have the fewest requirements and the least paperwork.

Instructions

    • 1

Get an Indian passport by filing a passport application with the Government of India's Ministry of External Affairs. Download the application off the Ministry of External Affairs website (see Resources), complete it, and submit it to a registered passport center.

If you cannot get a passport, you can use other acceptable documents that establish your Indian citizenship and identity, but you'll have to request and submit an application to the Malaysian Consulate (in person) requesting that the document be used as a travel document.

India's three Malaysian consulates are in Mumbai, Chennai and New Delhi. If you are not near a Malaysian consulate, it will be more convenient to file for a passport, as there are many more passport center locations. All paperwork must be completed in India.

Make sure that all travel documents are valid. Your passport or other travel documents must have be valid for at least six months after your anticipated arrival in Malayisa.

    • 3

Make sure you have enough money for your stay in Malaysia. When you enter into Malaysia, you must show that you have sufficient funds to stay in the country. This includes enough money for yourself and all your dependents.

    • 4

Buy a return ticket to India. You must be able to show conformation that you have a ticket out of Malaysia. This includes any tickets back to India or a ticket into a third country.

    • 5

Make sure you are not a "prohibited" person. You will be considered a prohibited person if you do not have enough money to support yourself while you're in Malaysia; if you have a disease or are mentally ill; if you are a vagrant; if you have a criminal record in any other country; if you are in possession of illegal or forged documents; if you are a known radical; and if you have been issued a "no-entry" from any government official or diplomat. You will also be denied entry is you have a job waiting for you in Malaysia and you have not filed the proper paperwork (ie. work permit and residency visa application) before entering the country.

Fill out an arrival/departure card at every Malaysian port of entry. This must be submitted to the immigration officer before entry into Malaysia.

    • 7

Speak to the immigration officer. Upon entry to Malaysia from India, you will be required to go through the immigration officer, who will ask you a few questions and request your documents. It is up to the immigration officer to issue you a tourist visa.
