Study the choices of furniture arrangements by measuring the space available in the slide-out. Decide whether or not the furniture should be portable. A booth or dinette generally cannot be moved, while a freestanding table and chairs might be used outdoors. Make sketches on graph paper of desirable options.
Consider the plumbing, heating or electrical components that may be located inside any benches located in the slide-out. These will complicate the replacement of the furniture and may make alternative arrangements impractical.
Evaluate the amount of storage benches provide. Ensure that if the benches are removed, additional belongings be secured elsewhere in the vehicle. If you want to add benches, consider the advantage of the additional storage.
Consider how the furniture is attached to the vehicle before removing it. The table in a dinette is likely to be attached to the wall adjacent to it and may have a single supporting leg secured at the other end. The benches are generally attached by a frame to the floor with screws. Damage to the floor covering will likely require repair. Benches may have to be disassembled to clear the vehicle door.
Remove freestanding chairs and a table from their storage spaces or from where they are secured for travel. Some tables and chairs are folded and stored within a cabinet that may be attached to an exterior wall. Detach the cabinet and repair the wall if necessary.
Replace the former dining furniture with another choice: add a dinette after removing a table and chairs or add a table and chairs after removing a dinette. Other options may include one or two recliners with swing trays for dining. Some owners choose to convert the slide-out to an office space for a desk and office storage.
