How to Buy a Passport From Another Country

Depending on where you're from, the privileges associated with your passport can be vastly different. If from a third-world country, buying a visa is required practically everywhere you go. However, with a passport from a first-world nation, such as the United States or a member of the EU, crossing borders is as easy as pulling out your passport (and sometimes that isn't even necessary). There is definitely something to carrying more than one passport. However, the only legal way to buy a passport from another country is to become a citizen of that country.

Know your circumstances. If you're an immigrant working in another country and you've been living and working there legally for more than three years, the chances are good you can take steps toward becoming a citizen there and getting a passport. If you have blood relatives in a certain country, you can look at the citizenship standards there. If you would like to simply buy a passport from somewhere you don't have a history with, things get more difficult.

Find a country. To find their standards, check the websites of each country, and if that's not possible, call their state departments. Another easy way to find the standards is to go to the embassy, if you have access to it. If you can qualify as a citizen in a foreign country simply due to work status or family history, try to apply for citizenship there. If you don't qualify in those places, certain Caribbean nations such as Dominica are open to accepting new economic citizens who make an investment in the country.

Apply for citizenship. This is the most difficult portion, and it's very specific to any country being dealt with. The best way to know what you need to do is to look on your target country government's website. There is usually a link there with instructions on how to become a citizen. In some places, becoming a citizen is as easy as signing a piece of paper, while others require stacks of paperwork and long tests.

Apply for a passport. Once you have proof of citizenship in a country, you may apply for a passport. The place to do this is either in a municipal building in the country such as a courthouse or a post office, or at that country's embassy if outside the country. Usually, the country's website will have a link showing where their embassies are abroad.
