Prepare the documents you'll need to show proof of your citizenship in Ghana. Appropriate papers include a birth certificate, baptismal record, old passport, certificate of naturalization or a signed affidavit regarding citizenship.
Make an appointment for passport photos. These must be four identical images taken of you without a hat or sunglasses. The photos must be recent and taken against a plain background. Several photography studios in Accra provide passport photo service, including Flash Photos at Danquah Circle-Osu and Modern Photos near Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
Visit the local post office and purchase up an "Application for a Republic of Ghana Passport Form." The cost of the form is subject to change, according to the Ghana Immigration Service. Fill out the information on the application that applies to you, including your name, previous or maiden names, your education and occupation.
Ask a guarantor to fill out the guarantor questions on the passport application form. Your guarantor must have acceptable professional and social standing, such as a clergy member, commissioned military officer, senior education official or other recognized professional, such as a doctor. The guarantor questions are #11a and b on the passport application form.
Fill out the application and affix the passport photos and citizenship documentation in front of a witness. You will also need to place an ink stamp of your thumbprint next to the passport photos. The witness must then sign the application at item #15, as directed.
Visit the nearest Ghana Immigration Service office in your area. Several regional offices exist throughout Ghana, including in cities such as Sunyani for the Ahafo region, Koforidua for the Eastern region, Cape Coast for the Central Region and Ho for the Volta region. Deliver the application to the immigration officer in charge, who will review it before acceptance.
Pay the Ghana passport processing fee of ¢50,000, or US$6.25, and wait for at least 30 days for the application to process. Your Ghanaian passport will be delivered to the regional office for pickup. Be sure to sign the new passport in the presence of the immigration officer.
