How to plan a trip to Pompeii

Pompeii is an ancient city south of Rome that was buried in a volcanic eruption in 79 CE. While the majority of the population was decimated in the eruption, the city was preserved under layers of volcanic ash and lava. It wasn't until the mid-18th century that Pompeii was rediscovered. Since its rediscovery, Pompeii has served as Italy's most famous archaeological site and a major tourist attraction, where visitors can walk the ancients streets and view buildings, famous frescoes and even plaster body casts of those who died during the eruption. While in Italy, plan to take an entire day to explore this ancient city.
