How to Figure Out Airline Miles Traveled

Whether you're saving miles for a special gift or you need to find out how far away you are from home, finding out air mileage is important. There are many ways to find out the mileage on different airline routes, either before your flight is booked or after you've landed on the ground in a new city. Using a map doesn't always work, as airlines take different routes to get to the same place, sometimes detouring many miles from the direct route. Use airline-connected methods and you'll have a more accurate view of your frequent flyer airline miles.

Instructions

    • 1

Book your flight online. Use the website for the airline itself, instead of one of the commercial aggregate sales sites. When booking your flight, the website will tell you the exact number of miles airborne in each leg of your trip.

    • 2

Look on your boarding pass when you get to the airport. Most boarding passes will have the total flight miles printed on the front of the pass for each leg of the journey.

    • 3

Listen to the announcements while on board the plane. The captain or pilot will announce the total miles that you will fly sometime during the beginning of the flight or right at the end of the flight just before landing.

Use an online mileage calculator. These sites allow you to input your airports, any layovers you may have and bonus miles your airline may offer, and then will calculate the total number of miles that you will be credited on this flight.
