Dirt Bike Trails in Basin, Montana

Basin is a small town in northern Jefferson County, Montana, near the Continental Divide and along Interstate 15. Basin, which sits between the major cities of Butte and Helena, features a number of off-highway vehicle recreation opportunities, including trails and courses for dirt bike enthusiasts.
  1. Clancy OHV Riding Area

    • Located approximately 10 miles north of Basin, the Clancy Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Riding Area features open land where free riding is allowed, as well as 10 miles of developed forest trails. Much of the area is open to riders of all abilities year-round. Riders must use spark-arresting silencers or an end cap on their vehicles.

    Pipestone OHV Recreation Area

    • The Pipestone OHV Recreation Area, approximately 44 miles southeast of Basin and 15 miles east of Butte, is a popular area for motorcycle and ATV riding. It features 75 miles of developed trails alongside a dispersed camping site and hiking trails. The area is also popular for hunting. The trailhead is on Interstate 90 at Exit 241, and parking is available. The trail system is open year-round, weather permitting,

    Mining City Dirt Riders

    • For riders interested in a motocross or dirt bike course rather than a trail system, Butte offers one of the newest in Montana. About 40 minutes south of Basin, the Mining City Dirt Riders offers a motocross course that is just under a mile long. The sand and gravel course is set on a prehistoric river bed and features several man-made obstacles. Open riding is also permitted inside the 60-acre park.
