Ride your bike on trails or go mountain biking. Bend offers all types of terrain for every type of biker skill, with 56 miles of trails.
Hike up to the summit of Pilot Butte, one of the many public trails in Bend. There are views of Mount Hood, Three Sisters, Mount Jefferson and Black Butte.
Try spelunking or caving in the area with a tour guide. The temperature in the caves will generally be 45 degrees, so dress accordingly.
Go kayaking or rafting on the Deschutes River. The Deschutes River has an area called the Big Eddy that has class III white rapids. Inexperienced kayakers and rafters should take a guided rafting trip for safety.
Ski or snowboard just outside Bend at Mount Bachelor as late as May in some seasons. Rentals are available for both skis and snowboards, including boots and helmets.
Go rock climbing at Smith Rock State Park, just outside of Bend. The park covers 651 acres on the Oregon high desert plateau and averages around 3,000 feet in elevation. With its red rock and tall peaks, it reminds many of the Grand Canyon.
Spend the night camping at one of the many areas in and near Bend, such as at the Deschutes National Forest or Tumalo. Some designated campsites are more rustic than others. Park rules are strictly enforced by park rangers.
Gaze at the stars in the desert. The best place to see the stars at night is in the desert, far away from city lights. Hampton Butte and Cougar Well are Wilderness Study Areas about 60 miles from Bend.
