How to Apply for a Visit Visa

A visa is a document that allows the visa holder to travel to a port of the United States and apply for admission into the country. A visitor visa allows the holder to travel on a temporary basis, whether the travel is for business or personal reasons. Certain steps must be followed, regardless of a visitor's home country. Depending on a visitor's country of permanent residence, additional country-specific instructions and requirements for a visitor visa vary.
