Complete a visa application form during your appointment. The application also is often available for download from the embassy website of your destination. Printing and completing the application beforehand can save you processing time.
Prepare to submit a valid passport with 2 to 5 copies of identical passport photos. The standard requirements for passport photos in most countries is 2 by 2 inches in size, taken against a light background. The photos must be taken without glasses or anything worn on your head.
Provide acceptable forms of identification, which can include a birth certificate, valid photo ID, naturalization card and other legal documentation. Each country has different standards for valid forms of identification.
Present a proof of accommodation and proof of sufficient funds if necessary. A confirmed hotel reservation, flight itinerary or formal invitation from a friend or relative is evidence of the duration of your stay. Certain countries also will request a recent bank statement or credit card statement as proof that you have adequate means of financially supporting yourself during your visit.
Pay the visa processing fee, which will vary depending on the type of visa you require and whether you request expedited service. Visas are processed anywhere from one business day to several weeks and can be sent to you by mail at an extra service charge.
