Military Base Campgrounds

There are military base campgrounds (MBCs) in every state except Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Iowa and Vermont. The campgrounds are located inside U.S. military installations and allow visitors to use all of the base's public facilities during their stay. The campgrounds are affordable so the military community can take part, regardless of rank.
  1. Access

    • You must have a current U.S. military identification card to access all of the MBCs. The campgrounds are open to more than just active duty troops, but also their dependents, civilians and retirees. However, active duty troops and their families are given priority during the peak season. Some, but not all military installations allow sponsored guests.

    Reservations

    • There is no central online reservation system for MBCs. Once you select the campground you would like to visit, you should visit the military installation's website for the base operator's phone number. Some campgrounds accept reservations, but some do not. If the campground does accept reservations, you may be asked to pay in advance or just give your name and contact information.

    Facilities

    • Each MBC is different. When you stay at one of these campgrounds, you will have access to all of the facilities on base, which may include a beach, pool, fitness center, marina, dog park, tax-free shopping, dining facility and golf course.

    Reunions

    • MBCs make great places for veteran reunions. You can plan to meet fellow veterans at a base where you were all stationed, for a "walk down memory lane." Reunion groups should call the installation prior to arrival to request campsites that are within the same vicinity. Groups can also request base tours from the installation's public affairs office.
