Many people think that taking a road trip is too expensive or uncomfortable, this how-to will show you how to get the most out of your mileage and your money.
Pick your destination. Things to keep in mind:
Decide on a budget for each day of the trip. If you are going to stay with family and friends most of your trip this will cut down majorly on expenses. Also, make sure to bring camping supplies in case you don't have a place to stay you can always look up a KOA campground (or state park) nearby. Make sure to include gas, food, possible camping fees, and souvenirs in your budget.
Get on the road! Once you're on the road there is no turning back. Make sure to have your mechanic (or a really handy friend) look over your car before you leave. You don't want to get 1000 miles from home and have your car poop out on you.
Send postcards. Get addresses from your family and friends before you leave so that you can send postcards from interesting stops on your trip. No one sends postcards anymore so it's exciting for your recipients when they receive them and gives you a chance to reflect on your trip.
