The Amish Farm and House (amishfarmandhouse.com) dates back to the early 1800's and is home to a typical Amish farmhouse, blacksmith shop, one-room schoolhouse, playground, picnic area and covered bridge.
The Li'l Country Store and Miniature Horse Farm (lancasterpa.com/lil-country-store.html) is home to 10 stalls of miniature horses. Kids can take part in saddle rides and cart rides and visit the Li'l Country Store, selling typical Amish crafts and treats.
Like the Amish Farm and House, the Amish Village (theamishvillage.net) offers visitors a look at present and past Amish history and features a one-room schoolhouse, a typical Amish barn, a smokehouse selling jams and jellies, a gift shop selling Amish crafts and souvenirs and a farmhouse dating back to 1840.
The Landis Valley Museum (landisvalleymuseum.org) is a historic village and farm that pays tribute to to Pennsylvania's rural German community between 1740 to 1940. The museum is situated on 100 acres and includes historic buildings and exhibits and displays.
The Lancaster Quilt and Textile Museum (quiltandtextilemuseum.com/qt) is situated in a building dating back to 1912 and features a collection of authentic late 19th- to 20th-century Amish quilts.
Wheatland (nps.gov/nr/travel/presidents/james_buchanan_wheatland.html#plan) has been designated a National Historic Landmark and was home to James Buchanan, America's 15th president. The Federal-style estate is located on 22 acres just outside Lancaster and holds some of Buchanan's original possessions.
Dutchland (dutchwonderland.com) is an amusement park catering to small children and is located just east of Lancaster. The park features over 30 rides, including two roller coasters, a water park and various children's shows and games.
A good place for a picnic lunch is Central Park, located in West Lampeter Township. Central Park is situated on 544 acres, and includes facilities such as pavilions, a county pool, an environmental center and an environmental library. Families who want to spend the night in Central Park can camp at the Mill Creek Camping Area.
The Strasburg Rail Road (strasburgrailroad.com) dates back to 1832, but nowadays, is a family-friendly attraction. The train rides through historic east Strasburg through picturesque Amish country and includes a dining parlor and gift shop. Kids will especially enjoy a ride on Thomas the Engine, a steam locomotive.
Many area farms offer traditional buggy rides, usually lasting 30 to 60 minutes and costing $10 to $15 per adult and $5 to $10 per child, as of April 2011. One well-known buggy ride operator is Aaron and Jessica's Buggy Rides (www.amishbuggyrides.com), located in Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania.
