Castles around Aberdeen, Scotland

Aberdeenshire, anchored by the city of Aberdeen, is rich in castles and history. The Aberdeenshire tourism board has put together a self-guided tour, the Castle Trail. The trail links 13 of the area's castles, but that's just a drop in the ocean compared to the thousand or so ruins found in the area. The city of Aberdeen no longer has a castle, but you don't have to travel far to find romantic ruins and stately homes.
