How long did it take to construct the magdeburg bridge?
The Magdeburg Water Bridge is an artificial canal and trough bridge crossing the Elbe river in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is 918 metres long, with a trough that contains 24,000 cubic metres of water. The water trough carries river barges as big as 1,000 tonnes upstream or downstream over a distance of 918 metres (3012 feet). The bridge can be crossed by boats, and ships can pass underneath. It is the longest navigable aqueduct in the world.
The bridge was built between 1997 and 2003, at a cost of €500 million. It was opened on 10 October 2003.
