For those who would rather tour Manhattan under sail, Manhattan by Sail offers year-round tour cruises on two sailing ships. Hand-built in 1929, the 82 foot Shearwater able to accommodate 48 passengers, and the 158 foot Clipper City depart Manhattan daily. A decommissioned U.S. Navy ship, Big Toot is run under the non-profit charter, Project City Kids. Operating from North Cove Marina in Lower Manhattan's Battery Park, Big Toot provides free 50 minutes rides around the Harbor for New York City children. The ship can hold up to 34 passengers and operates on weekends from May to October. There is a nominal charge for accompanying adults and children living outside the city.
