Mexico's coast is littered with spots for surfers to improve their skills, from the popular resorts at Huatulco to the quieter beaches around the Punta Mita area. Beginners to more expert surfers are likely to find a place that calls to them. Available accommodations range from the comfortable, individual casitas at the Northern Baja resort to an exotic stay aboard the Sylvester yacht.

    • Northern Baja Resort in northern Mexico has bargain packages that include accommodations, transportation, surfing lessons and meals. Groups of three or more depart from San Diego on a Friday for a three-, five- or seven-day trip; transportation from San Diego is included in the price.

      Surfers can choose a beginners or more advanced package. Accommodation is at a casita in a gated community. The casita, powered by solar energy, offers queen-size beds. A cantina provides three meals a day, and vegetarians can be accommodated. Day trips to various surfing spots are available; surfers must provide a board or rent one. Prices start from $415 per person based on three people staying for three days and two nights.

    Oaxaca

    • Oaxaca is one of Mexico's southernmost states and its coast is a popular spot for tourists, in particular the Huatulco resort. Xoxxi offers surfing lessons along the coastline from Huatalco to Salina Cruz. Packages include transfers to and from Huatalco airport, six hours of surfing lessons per day, transportation to surf destinations and all surfing equipment. The lessons are designed for beginners.

      Three meals per day, snacks and drinks and accommodations at Salina Cruz are also included. Accommodations consist of rooms with private bathrooms, Internet, TV and room service. A restaurant serves American and Mexican food, and a bar and a supermarket are site. The per-person cost for a seven-night stay is $1,115 (as of October 2010), not including flights.

    Punta Mita

    • The beaches around Punta Mita tend to be uncrowded and are therefore ideal for learners. Sylvester's yacht provides the accommodations while surfers of all levels practice their skills with intensive 12-hour surfing sessions. Transfers by inflatable dinghy from the yacht are included in the price, as well as three meals per day and drinks. Flights and surfing equipment are not included in the price, which is $1,590 for a seven-night package.
