Carry-on and checked bags are both subject to 50 lb. weight restrictions. Baggage above 50 lbs. will not be allowed on board.
Passengers are limited to a two-item carry on items. Medical items, like oxygen tanks, are exempt from the carry-on limit. Baby related items, like strollers, and personal items, like purses, are also exempt. Passengers are allowed to check three bags for free, and up to three additional bags for $10 a piece.
Carry-on items may not be larger than 28 inches x 22 inches x 14 inches. Checked baggage may not exceed 36 inches x 36 inches x 36 inches.
Both carry-on and checked luggage must have visible baggage tags listing their owners name and contact information. Free baggage tags are available from Amtrak upon request.
Bags can be checked at most Amtrak stations, a full list is available in the Resource section of this article. Passengers must be able to provide ID to check and claim baggage. Checked bags are usually available 30 minutes after arrival, although special items may require longer delivery time.
Items banned by Amtrak include weapons, weapon-like objects, incendiaries and animals that are not service animals. A full list of prohibited items can be found in the Resource section.
