Venezuela's capital and largest city, Caracas sits in the northern part of the country and features a valley of the Venezuelan central range. Tourists can check out the numerous streams, reservoirs and rivers in the city, including Pico El Avila, Tuy River, La Mariposa and Camatagua. Caracas also has a central commercial district and a historic colonial district that draws visitors.
  1. Concejo Municipal de Caracas

    • Also known as Palacio Municipal, Concejo Municipal de Caracas was built in 1905. Concejo Municipal de Caracas boasts designs of 19th-century tropical style. The entrance of the building features the Jardin de Caracas, a tropical garden. Visitors can also check out the Capilla de Santa Rosalia, located near the left entrance of the municipal hall. The old chapel features a golden pulpit, a shining altar and paintings displayed along the walls. Guests can also visit the numerous museums and galleries within the Concejo, such as Museo de Caracas, featuring models of the city; Museo Criollo Raul Santana, featuring mannequins that showcase life in Venezuela; Museo Emilio Boggio, featuring paintings; Sala de Arquelogia Gaspar Marcano, with archaeological artifacts; and Sala de Documentos Historicos, which stores historical records. Concejo Municipal de Caracas also sits on the site of the signing of the Acta de la Independencia de Venezuela in 1811, which recognized Venezuela as an independent country.

    Arco de la Federacion

    • Popular tourist attractions in Caracas include the city's own version of Colina Calvario, or Calvary Hill. Colina Calvario has served as the venue of the Holy Week processions, rituals and other ceremonies since the 18th century. The hill also features the Paseo de la Calvario, where the Arco de la Federacion was built in 1895. Commissioned by Joaquin Crespo, the Arco de la Federacion contains the word "federacion" on the topmost part of the arch that features a shining white face that stands out amidst the surrounding green park and the Caracas sky. Arco de la Federacion is a memorial of the Federal War waged from 1859 to 1863. Tourists can visit Arco de la Federacion 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

    El Ateneo de Caracas

    • A cultural complex, El Ateneo de Caracas showcases theatrical performances, dance exhibitions, cinema, graphic design displays, plastic arts, educational discussions and children's activities. Guests can check out the library and the Café del Ateneo within the complex. The library and the café host academic, technical and craft courses and workshops organized by El Ateneo de Caracas. The art galleries at El Ateneo de Caracas include Los Espacios Calidos Art Gallery and Sala de Arte y Ensayo Margot Benacerraf. El Ateneo de Caracas also houses performance halls like Sala de Teatro Ana Julia Rojas, Horacio Peterson Concert Hall and Sala de Teatro Rajatablas. These performance halls can accommodate approximately 300 to 400 guests.
