This guessing game is ideal for teenagers because it incorporates music knowledge into a classic game. The front-seat passenger turns the music up for a set amount of time, such as three to five seconds, then turns it completely down. The first person to correctly guess the song's name gets one point and, if that same person can also guess the artist, she gets another point for a total of two points. If the person who correctly named the title first can't name the singer or group, the other passengers have an opportunity to guess to earn a point. If your radio displays the song and artist on the radio dash, cover it so only the front seat passenger, who leads the game, can see the answers.
Prior to your trip, purchase a trivia game book or print out a list of trivia questions appropriate for teen players. Each correct answer earns one point, so determine how many points you will play to before declaring a winner. Have one person read a question from the trivia book or printout with one hand up so players know not to shout the answer before the question is not completely read. When the reader's hand goes down, the players may "blurt" their answers. The first person to correctly blurt the answer scores a point. Continue play until the predetermined number of points is reached by a winning player.
Similar to "Name That Tune," "Sing That Song" is played by turning the radio down after three to five seconds. In this case, however, the players continue singing the song without the radio's lead. Even the front seat passenger controlling the radio can participate in this game, since it is difficult to cheat in this game. Before starting the game, decide how many points should be earned to win the game. The player who continues singing the song the longest, with the correct lyrics and tune, scores a point. The first person to reach the set number of points is the winner.
This game requires nothing but a sand timer, the players' active imaginations and quick verbal abilities. The story does not have to be preplanned or on a particular topic; it could be as simple as, "One day I was walking down the street and I...." To begin the game, one player turns the sand timer and begins the story. The story should be told at a fast-moving pace with no extreme pauses or breaks, except for a quick breath between words. When the last grains of sand are about to fall through, the timer should be passed to the next person, who turns the sand timer the other way and begins his minute of storytelling, picking up where the previous player left off. For example, if the last person left off in a grocery store looking for mud-flavored bubble gum, the next person should continue at that same point and add onto the same basic story with her own creative thoughts. Players are out when they hesitate for more than a quick breath, when they don't begin their turn as soon as the timer is flipped for their turn, or when they start laughing or talking randomly "away from" the story. When there is only one person left, the game ends and that person is the winner.
