How to Secure Drawers in a Trailer

The drawers in your trailer or RV may be convenient for storing items, both on the road and once you reach your destination, but securing them for travel can be tricky. Unsecured drawers can fly open at corners and curves, causing the items inside to scatter throughout your trailer, sometimes leading to breakage and spills. If this happens, you may find yourself with a big mess once you reach your destination. To prevent this problem from occurring, secure your trailer or RV drawers before you begin your trip.

Instructions

    • 1

Lock all drawers and cabinets equipped with locks. Install locks and latches on drawers that are not.

    • 2

Secure cabinets and drawers shut with bungee cords. For drawers and cabinets with only one door, attach one end of the bungee to the door and the other to something stable behind the door to prevent it from opening. Cabinets with two doors can be bungeed together.

Wrap breakable items inside cabinets and drawers in plastic and paper to keep them from being broken.

    • 4

Fill large voids in cabinets and drawers with pillows, towels or blankets to keep items from being tossed around.
