How to Secure a Visa

Visas are travel documents printed in your passport to allow you to travel to a country for a certain length of time and perform certain activities in that country. Visa requirements to enter a country are different for nationals of different countries, so it is important to check what the visa requirements for a country are before you try to visit, and submit the correct documentation to avoid disappointment and a wasted application fee.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the embassy or the website of the embassy of the country that you wish to visit. Visit the consular section of the website or embassy where the visa requirements are listed.

    • 2

Check the visa requirements for yourself and what you will be doing on your visit to that country (for example, studying, conducting business or going on vacation). In some cases no extra visa is required for nationals of certain countries to enter certain other countries. Download or collect a visa application form.

    • 3

Complete the application form for the visa, designating what kind of visa you are applying for.

    • 4

Follow the instructions on the form. For example, you might need to attach a passport photograph to the application form.

    • 5

Submit your passport and all documents that the visa requires--such as bank statements, company details, sponsor letters--to the consular section of the country's embassy.

    • 6

Pay the application fee. Come back to pick up your passport after the specified period. The visa will be printed on one of the blank pages in the passport.
