Visit the Imperial Palace Gardens. The Imperial Palace, located in the heart of Tokyo, is the home of Japan's Imperial family. The palace, parts of which date back to the days of the shoguns, is only open to the public two or three days a year, but the East Gardens welcome visitors every day except for Mondays, Fridays and holidays.
Take in the view from the TMG Building. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) Building is one of three buildings in the city's Shinjuku neighborhood that house Tokyo's city offices and courts. The 799-foot tall building has two observation decks, both of which are open free to the public until 11:00 p.m. on weekdays.
Relax in Ueno Park. Located in the Taito-ku section of Tokyu, Ueno Park is that city's version of New York's Central Park. Formerly Imperial land, the park features a variety of statues and monuments as well as a handful of (not free) museums. The park is best known for its 1,000 cherry trees, which bloom in late March or early April.
Explore the Sony Showroom. The flagship store of the Sony Corporation, located in Tokyo's Ginza commercial district, has a five floor showroom that features all of the latest electronic gadgetry made by the company. Here you can try the latest video game, listen to music or view the most recent computer models.
