Trips to Baguio, Philippines

Baguio is known as the summer capital of the Philippines and the City of Pines. This pine-clad city lies on a plateau 4,600 feet above sea level, surrounded by mountains. Filled with lush vegetation and with significantly colder weather than most of the Philippines, it features a number of natural and man-made attractions that are visited during the Philippine summer season from March to May.
  1. Camp John Hay

    • As one of the city's most popular tourist destinations, Camp John Hay (CJH) features a beautiful resort set in the Cordillera mountains. Travelers can check out a world-class golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, a number of hotels, a shopping center and a convention center all within the resort premises. The site is a former recreation facility for American soldiers. In 1991, at the end of the R.P.-U.S. Bases Agreement, the 1,500 acre property was turned over to the Philippines. Although it was converted into a private resort, there are many areas around Camp John Hay that are still accessible to the public for free.

    The Mansion

    • Located on the eastern part of Baguio City along C.P. Romulo Drive (formerly a part of Leonard Wood Road), The Mansion is the official summer residence of the President of the Philippines. This stately building is also a frequently visited and photographed landmark in Baguio because of its postcard look. Formerly called the Mansion House, it was built in 1908 to serve as the summer home for U.S. Governor Generals, the American administrators of the Philippines during the American occupation. Although it was destroyed in 1945 during the battle for the liberation of the Philippines, the Philippine government rebuilt it in 1947.

    Burnham Park

    • Burnham Park was designed by and named after the premier American architect and urban planner Daniel Hudson Burnham. The park's current design and layout represents his original work from about a century ago. Burnham Park is a popular, free destination for both tourists and locals, and allows visitors to enjoy a number of Baguio landmarks and attractions including the Baguio Cathedral, the city hall and the hugely popular Baguio City Market.
