Penneshaw--Fishing on this town's jetty will offer you the catch of tommies, garfish, squid and snook. Sheltered waters can be accessed by a boat ramp, which has great fishing for whiting. The Backstairs Passage in this the town allows you access to deeper waters, which is good for whiting fishing. You can catch more whiting along with gar, tummies, snook, salmon and kingfish in Antechamber Bay and Cape Willoughby, which is just a short distance away.
Pennington Bay--This bay offers a great rock fishing location. It is located 10 minutes off the main highway and offers fishing for salmon, mullet and tommies. Mulloway fishing is possible at night. It is moderately sheltered, making this a good spot for family fishing in the surf.
American River--You can catch almost anything here. This sheltered waterway offers jetty, boat ramp and charter boat fishing. This area provides a great place for boat fishing, whether you are using bait or trolling lures. You'll find gar, squid, tommies and even scallops in the boat ramp area.
Kingscote--This is home to Island's largest jetty, and the fishing from it will provide quantity along with variety. The different species of fish found here are whiting, tommies, gar, squid, trevally, snook, barracuda, kingfish, snapper and sharks. The town has a saltwater rock wall swimming pool that also provides a picturesque and safe platform for rock fishing.
Bay of Shoals--This is the where Kingscote's boat ramp is located. A mixture of shallows, spits, sand bars, channels, tide races, razor fish beds and deep holes are found here. You can catch many species just a short distance off shore. The sand patches on the edge of the channel are full of weed beds for garfish and squid. Whiting is caught in this area, too. Salmon or snook are easily lured here when the tide surge comes just around the point.
Flinders Chase National Park--This offers remote beach and rock fishing locations. How remote you would like to go is going to depend on how far you are willing and able to hike. In this park you will find rivers that enter the sea, causing great areas of surf and pitching deep holes and gutters nearer to shore. These concave water areas are full of salmon and mulloway. A map of the area will let you explore all the great fishing spots.
