Alaska's Borders: No Provinces, But Two Canadian Neighbors

Alaska is a U.S. state—it borders no provinces. It shares land boundaries with:

  • Yukon Territory (Canada) — east/northeast
  • British Columbia (province, Canada) — southeast

Maritime boundary with Russia (Chukotka Autonomous Okrug) across the Bering Strait (~55 mi / 88 km at narrowest). No other land borders.

Why the Confusion?

"Province" is a Canadian first-level division; Yukon is a territory, not a province. British Columbia is the only Canadian province touching Alaska. The 1,538-mile (2,475 km) Alaska–Canada border is the longest international boundary for any U.S. state.
