Typical Weather in Vancouver

Vancouver is in the southwest corner of British Columbia. Because of its location, the city receives warm air from the Pacific Ocean and is further protected by the Coast Mountain Range to the north. This creates a mild climate throughout the year.
  1. Average Temperature

    • The weather in Vancouver ranges from the mid to high 70s Fahrenheit in the summer to the low to mid 40s Fahrenheit in the late fall and early winter. It rarely gets hot, but Pacific Ocean humidity is common during the summer.

    Rain

    • The rainiest part of the year is during the winter months, specifically November and December. Severe thunderstorms are rare, but there can be as many as 165 of rainy days each year. Many of these "rainy days" include drizzle and light rain showers, but heavier showers are possible.

    Snow

    • Because of the mild temperatures, snow only appears in December and January. However, because the ground is too warm, the snow generally melts on impact. The winter also brings heavy winds and some ice. In the higher elevations--such as in the mountains near Whistler--heavy snows are possible; blizzards are also possible.
