Surrounded on three sides by water and fronted by a long stretch of sandy beach, Twin Shores Camping Area gives you a quiet, look-at-those-stars camping experience. The rest of the peninsula fronting the Atlantic is a mix of cultivated farmland and still-wild forest. Despite the rural locale, the campground offers RV campsites with hook-ups and bare-bones campsites suitable for tents. The bare-bones sites are hidden in a forest grove, many within steps of the beach. Comb the beach, build a sandcastle, or find a prime spot on the sand for a picnic or to watch a colorful sunset. Open June 1 through October 1, this is the only campground in Darnley, located about 2 miles from the center of town.
Cabot Beach Provincial Park, about 5 miles north of Darnley, fronts Malpeque Bay. With both tent and RV camping, the property is scattered among trees and fronts a long sandy beach. The campground is on its own peninsula, complete with lighthouse and eye-popping views of the Atlantic.
Located 15 miles west of Darnley, Crystal Beach Campground is part campground, part mini water park. The property recently added a splash park to go along with the heated pool. Kids especially love to get good and wet in the colorful park, filled with giant frogs, open-mouthed whales and even a giraffe with a shirt and tie. If you prefer the beach, the campground fronts Malpeque Bay on the northern end. Offering camping spaces for tents as well as the largest of RVs, Crystal Beach is open from late May through the early part of October, weather permitting.
The Cavendish KOA is 16 miles south of Darnley and, like many campgrounds in this chain, gives you hotel-like amenities. Camp in your own RV or tent, or rent one of the onsite trailers or cabins. Kids are kept entertained with the petting zoo, wagon rides and a weekday Kids Kamp. Even your pet has the K-9 Dog Park to visit. Located in the town of Cavendish, the campground is one block from Avonlea Village, the setting for the “Anne of Green Gables” books.
