What is Jamaican pidgin?

Jamaican Patois, also widely known as Jamaican Patwa[6][7] and Jamaican Talk,[8] is a creole spoken primarily in Jamaica and also widely in countries with large and influential Rastafarian and Jamaican immigrant communities, notably Belize, the Cayman Islands, The Bahamas, the United States, the British Virgin Islands, and Nicaragua's Caribbean coast (Corn Islands and Bluefields).

This Creole is based chiefly on English vocabulary[2] with traces of the Spanish and West African linguistic features due to African slaves taken in by Spain's colonies to replace the native populations which were almost fully extinguished during the colonization of the Americas.[3] It has elements of the English dialects found during Caribbean Colonization (17–18 c.)
