Information on Visiting Paris

Visitors flock to Paris for romantic nights, classic art and to eat authentic French cuisine. It's a good idea to become familiar with French customs before you visit and to understand tipping, transportation and facts about the city.
  1. Population

    • Paris is home to 2,125,246 people. This does not include the many tourists who visit each year.

    Currency

    • The French use the Euro, like most of the European Union. The currency rate changes daily from American to Euro so check converters before you leave. An average taxi ride from the airport to central Paris is 45 Euros and an average dinner will cost you 15 Euros per person.

    Tipping

    • Tips are generally included in the bills at restaurants and cafés. You will see a 15 percent tip at the bottom of the bill. Taxi drivers and hairdressers do not expect tips, but it is customary to leave a small amount for their services.

    Temperature

    • Most tourists travel to Paris between March and July. The weather in these months ranges from 40 to 60 degrees in March and April, and 50 to 70 degrees in May and June. July is the warmest month, when temperatures can be about 78 degrees.

    Travel

    • The most convenient way to travel across Paris is the Metro. Tickets are inexpensive and can be purchased at all Metro stations.
